In mid-February, workers at a tire repair shop in the North Zone of Porto Velho arrived early to a shocking sight. By the roadside, a small, disabled dog lay abandoned, unable to walk.
His front legs were bent backward, rendering him immobile. Vulnerable and unwanted, he had been left to fend for himself with little hope of survival.
The two workers, Ozimar Queiroz (known as Galego) and Lindomar Queiroz, were deeply moved by the dog’s plight. Despite their limited means, they decided to care for the dog temporarily until someone could adopt him. They fed him, moved him around throughout the day, and kept him safe from harm.
The workers affectionately named him “Seal,” inspired by the way his open paws made him resemble the marine animal. Although Seal found some companionship in a stray cat that wandered near the shop, he remained vulnerable and in need of proper veterinary care.
“We felt terrible for him,” Galego explained. “We’ve been feeding him, and he’s gained weight since we found him, but we don’t have the resources to care for him properly.”
For three weeks, the tire repairmen did everything they could to give Seal a sense of safety and care. However, his story took a turn for the better when it gained traction on social media. The heartbreaking images of Seal’s struggle captured the attention of animal lovers, and soon, a kind-hearted couple from Porto Velho stepped forward to adopt him.
The woman who adopted Seal, Michele, an economics student, described the connection as love at first sight. Deeply moved by his gentle nature and helpless condition, Michele knew she had to give him a forever home.
“That was love at first sight. His situation struck me deeply. Despite being helpless, he was so docile and kind. I fell in love with him,” Michele shared. “I love him—there’s no other way to describe it. It’s a mother’s feeling.”
Now renamed and living in a warm, caring home, Seal’s life has completely transformed. Michele has provided him with the love and attention he desperately needed, giving him a chance to thrive despite his challenges.
Seal’s story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of animals and the impact of compassion. From being abandoned by the roadside to becoming a cherished member of a loving family, Seal’s journey is a testament to the kindness of strangers and the hope that every animal deserves a second chance.
