This year, students at Cecyte Nuevo León, a junior high school in Mexico, have been blessed with an unexpected visitor who quickly became part of their daily routine. A friendly local dog, full of life and affection, has made it his mission to show up at the school every single day without fail. He doesn’t come for food or shelter he comes for friendship.
The moment the recess bell rings, his ears perk up and his tail wags furiously. He races joyfully onto the campus, eager to spend those precious minutes playing with his newfound friends. ‘When the recess bell rings, he comes running to play with the students,’ shared principal Lydia Sanchez in a heartfelt post.

The children welcome him with open arms, their laughter echoing through the schoolyard as he chases after them, basking in their love and attention. But as endearing as his visits are, his favorite way of playing comes with an unexpected cost one that the school community would soon have to face.
The dog, who is believed to have a family living near the school, enjoys nothing more than chasing and catching soccer balls students kick for him.
Most of the time, the dog’s playful visits were nothing but pure joy for the students. But last week, things took a bittersweet turn.
As the children gathered for recess, they suddenly realized the gravity of the situation: out of all the balls they had, only one remained unscathed. The rest had already fallen victim to their furry friend’s favorite pastime popping them. Worried they’d soon have nothing left to play with, the students reluctantly closed the gate to the playground, keeping their four-legged companion on the outside until new balls could be bought.
When the dog arrived and saw the closed gate, it was as if he understood. His tail lowered, and with visible disappointment, he turned and walked away from the schoolyard that had always welcomed him. But this wasn’t the end of his story.
Later that day, he returned. This time, he carried something in his mouth a peace offering, perhaps, or even an apology. It was a ball, his very own, already deflated but brought with the purest of intentions. A way of saying, I just want to play, too.
“Seeing him come back with his ball to play filled me with emotion,” Principal Lydia Sanchez shared. “He is extremely intelligent.”
The dog’s exile was short-lived. Soon, the school replenished its supply of balls a small expense for the happiness of both the children and their beloved visitor. With fresh toys to kick around and his spot in the playground restored, balance returned to the schoolyard.
And if Sanchez has her way, no gate will ever stand in his way again.
“He’ll always be welcome here,” she said.
Now, harmony reigns once more at Cecyte Nuevo León a school where friendship, both human and canine, is celebrated every single day.
